What is a school counselor?
A school counselor is an educator and mental health professional that supports students' academic, personal and social development. School counselors collaborate with teachers, administrators and community partners to provide responsive and preventative services for all students. School counselors help make the school a safe and respectful place to learn and grow.

Are school counselors the same as therapists?
School counselors are not therapists. We are unable to provide therapy, diagnose or treat mental illness. Although, if we do find that a student may benefit from long-term services, we are able to refer therapist within the community.
Can school counselors "fix" students?
Our goal isn't to "fix" students, but to provide them with the proper tools that will help them grow. With time, practice and help from teachers, administration, parents and the community, we can help guide students to success.
